It’s summertime, and things are heating up around the five boroughs. If New York City were a cup, it would be overflowing with music, dancing, and merrymaking this June. There are so many amazing concerts and events happening, we really couldn’t fit them all into our roundup this month. Just click on the links for the massive line ups at these festivals and celebrations.
PRIDE
It wouldn’t be June without Pride. From the March to the Rally to all the fabulous parties throughout the city, Gay Pride Month is a spectacle and an inspiration to behold. This year’s Pride Island Saturday “gaythering” is sure to be one for the ages with Tegan and Sara, Róisín Murphy, and Occupy The Disco bringing the tunes. Pride’s become a family event, too, with Family Movie Night and Youth Pride. Catch up on the entire goings on at nycpride.org.
SUMMER CONCERTS
With summer sun comes outdoor concerts. It all begins this weekend with the Governors Ball on Randall’s Island. This year’s headliners include Chance the Rapper, Phoenix, and Tool. Summerstage is the grandmamma of them all. Elvis Costello, Mavis Staples, and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic hit Central Park. And that’s just a sliver of what June has to offer. Celebrate Brooklyn kicks off at the Prospect Park Bandshell with The Shins, Lisa Loeb, and Talib Kweli. If you’re looking for dance, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council presents its annual River to River festival, featuring Faye Driscoll, Beth Gill, and The Dance Cartell’s R2R Living Rooms.
