Spring is in the air, and with it comes an explosion of outdoor events filled with flowers, bonnets, and movies. And we’ve got a bevy of fun things to do in and around NYC this April.
CITY IN BLOOM
The city’s beginning to blossom after the long winter, and there are several places to celebrate all things floral. The Macy’s Flower Show 2017 bursts with color and fragrance from its flagship store in Harold Square through April 9. Closing the same day is the New York Botanical Gardens Orchid Show, which focuses on Thailand this year. And wrap up your month with a day that celebrates that which gives us these gorgeous buds, Mother Earth. Earth Day 2017 is on April 22. There are tons of events around the city, including a March for Science.
Founded 15 years ago with a directive to revitalize downtown New York City in response to the events of 9/11, the Tribeca Film Festival now spreads as far north as the Beacon Theater. Visit the festival hub at Spring Studios, and explore immersive VR and interactive films in Storyscapes. Catch a Tribeca Talk with filmmakers like Barbara Streisand, Tom Hanks, and Common. Or just go see a movie. It is a film festival, after all.
Build a bonnet and join the parade! Every Easter, thousands of people descend on 5th Avenue from all over the world for the Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival. You’ll spy seniors with four-foot fedoras and toddlers with balloon animal caps. If you can imagine it, someone will have it on their head. The celebration runs from 49th Street to 57th Street starting at 10 am and ending at 4 pm.
